Brewed for us, by friends of ours

Every pub should have a house ale it can call its own — ours comes from Facer's Brewery, tucked away in Flint, Flintshire, North Wales. Facer's is the oldest brewery in Flintshire, founded back in 2003 by veteran Manchester brewer Dave Facer, whose career started in the city's own brewing scene in the 1970s before he took his craft to Wales.

The owner's friendship with the team at Facer's led to something special: Oaks Ale, brewed and casked exclusively for the Seven Oaks. It's our house drink — a proper, hand-crafted real ale you won't find poured anywhere else.

A Manchester original, since 1824

The Seven Oaks has stood on Nicholas Street since 1824 — nearly two centuries before Chinatown grew up around it. Manchester was still in the grip of the Industrial Revolution when the doors first opened; back then, this was a city of mills, warehouses, and the workers who kept them running, and a proper freehouse like ours was where they came to unwind.

That freehouse status has never changed. Unlike so many pubs that got swallowed up by breweries over the years, the Seven Oaks has always poured what it wants, not what it's told to — which is why you'll still find proper cask ale alongside the usual pints.

The building has watched the neighbourhood transform around it: from a Victorian back-street to the heart of what's now the second-largest Chinatown in the UK. Through it all, the Seven Oaks has stayed exactly what it's always been — an honest, no-frills Manchester boozer with a warm welcome and a few good pints on.
